Moving to the NEDO (April 3, 2011)
I would like to express my condolences on the loss of the Tohoku region from the earthquake and tsunami. All who suffer in this calamity are in my thoughts and prayers.
After two-year service as the Director of the Information Services Industry Division, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), I have moved to the New Energy and Industrial Technology Organization (NEDO), the largest R&D management agency in Japan. As Director-General for General Affairs and Policy Planning, I am now responsible for strengthening NEDO’s R&D formation and management, increasing the transparency and accountability, and coordinating the organization-wide policy planning and resource allocation.
The NEDO is expected to play an important technology development role in post-earthquake recovery and growth in Japan, with its unique capabilities to quickly respond to diverse social needs and strategically address domestic and international challenges. NEDO’s advanced technology development management scheme brings together the considerable resources of industry, government and academia for promoting essential R&D and demonstration projects in the energy and industrial technology fields.
On this occasion, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude for business leaders, academic experts, and colleagues in the public sector, who guided my activities in the METI. I will make full use of what I have learned from you in my new responsibility, and hopefully pay back to the wider community with my humble contribution to the accelerated R&D and innovation for domestic and global challenge.
